Everything and nothing at the same time
When enough isn’t enough, what’s really missing? Do you feel like you have everything and nothing at the same time?
You want a life that does more than just look good on paper. In a world of Instagram filters and non-stop selfies, we only see the best 3% of people’s lives. We have a tendency to compare our filter-free lives to those we see around us.
I get it, guilty!
Perfect and empty
For years I had “it all”, a life that rocked on paper, meeting milestones, leaping from goal to goal, great pension, bonuses, box seats at the playoffs, it was the best of times…it was the worst of times, and I had NO idea.
I had everything my mind thought it needed to balance the equation of happiness. There was something missing but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
I loved what I did, had a great pad in the Ottawa core, fun friends, boyfriends, fully recovered from 3 years of chronic pain from Fibromyalgia after a car accident..but still… there was this void in the equation…
The worst part was I couldn’t put my finger on it, I felt lost, my internal world was accumulating lack…but lack of WHAT!?
It wasn’t until a few nudges from the Universe and some deep introspection that I realized that the world I had created for myself wasn’t completely congruent with my genuine desires.
A satisfaction deficit
I was living in a satisfaction and fulfilment deficit. It was that lack that had been accumulating within me.
You grow up and are fed the story: get a job, meet your soulmate, buy a house, have some kids…bam happiness. But what I’ve learnt is that those things are actually a result of honouring our inner, most authentic desires.
Following our passions and finding that sweet spot between what we love, and our unique way of expressing our way of being of service to the external world is where our unique equation to joy is.
As Eleanor Roosevelt said: You can’t pour from an empty cup. But I would go as far to say that your cup needs to be filled with the right stuff and to do that, you need to need to explore your unique recipe for happiness.
